Acceptance

We all have our struggles in life. Some more severe than others and we often do not know how to handle the results of those struggles. We develop fears, trust issues and trouble accepting things for how they are. Always looking for what can go wrong and not living in the moment to see how things play out. We do not want to be hurt anymore, so we become over protective of ourselves to prevent that. This often pushes people away. Maybe those people that got pushed away were not supposed to be there. They could not handle you, so perhaps you are better off.

Where is that fine line where those people give their everything to see through those fears and the wall put up, to a point where they did not give up on you, but rather you gave up on them? Where you push those people so far away, there is no chance for them to ever be accepted. What happens when you push the wrong people away? Are you willing to allow your fears to get in the way and cause a painful regret you can live with for the rest of your life?

Those fears are strong and that wall is sturdy, but the right people can bring it down and help you feel at ease. You cannot expect it to be one sided, where they are the ones putting in all the effort to tear it down. You have to be willing to take risks and see past those fears to allow someone in.

If there is someone you truly care about, but find yourself too scared to see through your fears, you need to really think about this person you are with. Are they worth tearing that wall down for? Think of your life without them. Is this something you are okay with giving up on and letting go? The worst thing you can do is drag them along. Make them believe there is hope that they will get through to your core one day. While you know you are unable to let them in.

You cannot let your past control you. You are giving the people that hurt you the power of knowing that you wont allow yourself to be happy ever again. You allow the people in the present and future know that because of the people in the past, there is no hope.

Can you accept what is? Live in the moment and do not allow your past to define you. Your past is a part of you, but it does not control you. These are experiences you have learned from and can overcome in the future. Let go of those fears, tear down that wall and do not risk losing the wrong person. Regret is not easy to live with.
